I'm hardly a fan of westerns, but I happen to be trapped in Yellowstone.
No, it's not a western; I would call that genre "godfatherhood." I think it's long overdue, or maybe it already is. For example, if you're fans of that same Godfather, The Sopranos, The Godfather of Harlem, House of Cards, you'll understand me. In all of them, the sternest and most charismatic uncle owns the odds and tries to keep and multiply.
Let's go back to Yellowstone and start with a picture. As a lover of mesmerizing views and all living things, I am insanely pleased to see the views of Montana and Yellowstone, and how nicely it is shot, God bless the cameramen. And the nature of America is just as fascinating as ours, and sometimes it is even envying, seeing as bison, coyotes and other animals alien to us roam the fields.
The acting and staging, as in any quality and versatile contemporary series, is at a pretty high level. From the first episodes, the relationships in the Dutton family, and not just the family, are gripping. In fact, sometimes even the farm workers can be more interesting to follow than the main characters. Only now comes the realization of how great the creators have alternated between dynamic horse racing, cattle curbing, cowboy fights, and a battle of wits on the black-and-yellow County chessboard.
[Notwithstanding the above, I must add that some of the main characters became annoying by the third season with overacting and lack of motivation. But that's in my spoiled view.
Flashbacks to the characters' close childhoods and very distant ranch pasts explaining certain actions sometimes help with this].
Yellowstone is above all about loyalty to one's cause, one's loved ones and one's neighbors.
Again, the series is universal, as are most modern ones. Even lying on the crib with a girl you will now and then dream of riding a horse or having a house like the one on the screen. And with the guys over a beer to want that Ford or choose a character to your liking.
