Honestly, I didn't know Shakespeare had borrowed his idea of “Prince of Denmark” from Saxon Grammar. Well, one way or another, this variation on the theme of complex family relationships will be very popular with all fans of “Vikings”, “Ring of the Nibelungen”, “Beowulf” and others.
The film is very captivating with some kind of focus and lack of excessive romanticism and pathos. Pity, humanism, 'everyone got married and lived happy' — and, best of all, already disgraced tolerance - no, it's not Scandinavian. There will be no mercy here, children and old people will be killed here, even recognized movie stars will not be spared here, there will be blood, guts and dirt — but alas, the Vikings did. And if vanilla-strawberry lovers wear Thor's Hammer around their thin neck or make a Valknut tattoo in the area of lace panties do not like it - alas, but it was, you can't rewrite the story to your desires.
Yes, there are a lot of inconsistencies in the film (for example, a boat trip from Russia to Iceland smiled) — but we remember that the film is still a feature film. And as a feature film, it is made very soundly: from the actors' play to just brilliant cinematography: “highlighting” the main characters with colored outfits, competent presentation of magical visions that do not allow you to slide into a complete fairy tale — but they are great intertwined with the overall story, great landscape photography — I just enjoyed it here.
On the whole, I liked everything. But I would like to stress that the film is a vivid representative of the Scandinavian epic, if you do not like it, pass by. And if you are a fan, enjoy it!
