After the brilliant Dark Resurrection, Namco had every reason to rest on its laurels. A worthy sequel would have been enough with a slightly restored image and a couple of small pleasant innovations. But instead the developers rushed to expand their horizons and actually enter another genre, leaving the rest halfway. So Tekken 6 is like a Russian writer from a children's essay - with one foot standing in the past and the other welcoming the future. It's a clumsy spectacle.
Rusty Fist Tournament
After winning the previous championship, Jin Kazama took over the Mishima Corporation and unleashed a world war. The plot twists and infighting leading up to these unfortunate events are detailed in a long prologue. Kazama's hegemonic ambitions are countered by young Lars Alexandersson, a rebel squad leader and, it seems, a regular client of Sergei Zverev's makeup artist. During a raid on Mishima's lab, Lars is hit by an explosion. Extravagant hair is not damaged, but the brain is less lucky - a complete amnesia. Taking a nude cyborg girl with him, Alexandersson embarks on a long journey in search of who knows what.
By removing the usual "Arcade mode" out of sight, the creators have staked on the "Scenario campaign" mode. Its prototypes, "Tekken Force" and "Devil within", in the past parts were a kind of "fifth wheel". Basically, it's a revival of the slightly forgotten beat 'em up trend these days (classic representatives of which are Fighting Force, Streets of Rage and Double Dragon). Lars and his girlfriend run around squalid locations furnished with containers and crates, or even empty corridors. A step to the left, a step to the right - escape, but it will not make it. Trying to leave the confines of the outlined enclosure or simply walking up to the wall, the hero invariably runs into ugly purple circles. On every level, behind the crowds of monotonous and stupid enemies, there is usually a "boss" waiting - someone from the fighters. Lars's electronic companion is not far behind the unintelligent foes - she can't use weapons, and collects power-ups only by pure chance.
