Behind the cheeky name of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (RHCP) there is a complicated history. The four didn't always blow up the concert halls. There were many trials on their way: the band members left and came back, struggled with drug addiction and broke down, lost loved ones and continued to live for the sake of those around them. Forever young, brave, edgy - that's all about the "Peppers." But the most interesting, as usual, remains behind the scenes. Today we are going to uncover them.
The history of the musical group began with a strong friendship. In 1973, a fight broke out in a schoolyard in California. Several boys jumped on one - a skinny one with a short haircut. They were immediately surrounded by a crowd of their peers. The onlookers watched in silence and did not interfere. A boy who was passing by realized at once that the fight was not on an equal footing. Something made him step in and stand up for the skinny boy. When they were left alone on the battlefield, the defender spat, held out his hand to the injured man, and said: "Anthony." The skinny guy touched the bump on his head and responded to the handshake, "Michael." Thus began a long and loyal friendship between Anthony Kiedis and Michael Peter Balzary, long known as Flea. Many things have changed in the Red Hot Chili Peppers over the years, but some things have remained unchanged: the presence of Anthony Kiedis and Flea. The childhood friends have remained inseparable.
Anthony's creative path began with Michael's invitation to the Anthym concert, where he played bass. The band performed rarely: no one wanted to deal with underage musicians. Meanwhile, Anthony became a frequent guest at Anthym concerts, and soon began to open performances with his poems. During the same period he became close to one of the band members, Hillel Slovak, who impressed Kidis with his talent and self-confidence. So it went on until Michael, who had already taken on a nickname Flie, decided to leave the band and move to another one - Fear. In Anthym, apart from Slovak, there were two others: Jack Irons and Elaine Johannes. They changed the name of the band to What Is This? and continued to perform. It would seem that at this point they went their separate ways: some of them gave up music, others drifted with the current in a little known band. Nothing foretold the emergence of the legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers.
