Randy Orton is a third generation wrestler, his grandfather Bob Orton St. and father Bob Orton Jr. He made his WWE debut in 2002 on SmackDown! It was a match against Undertaker for the WWE Undisputed Champion title, Randy had a great fight, but Undertaker won the match. After the fight, Undertaker secured Orton's head in the chair and was ready to end his career, but The Player showed up and saved Randy. Randy Orton soon moved on to RAW, there he suffered a hand injury and didn't perform for a while... After recovering from his injury, Randy Orton got into Evolution, which consisted of The Player, Ric Flair and Batista. At Evolution, he was very appreciated and believed in him. But Randy's comeback didn't last long, as Randy got hurt again and left RAW to recover.
Before the 2003 Bad Blood PPV, Randy Orton returned to RAW as part of Evolution, and on the PPV itself, he helped Ric Flair defeat Shawn Michaels... The next day, Randy got into a conflict with Mick Foley. A week after that, Orton beat up Foley and threw him down the stairs, causing Mick Foley to quit WWE. By then, Goldberg was gaining momentum in WWE and was ready to fight The Player for the World Heavyweight Title... The 2003 PPV Summerslam had an Elimination Chamber fight featuring Randy Orton, The Player, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash and Goldberg... Orton was taken out of the fight by Goldberg, but The Player defended the title, making The Player the number one target for Goldberg.
The Gambler decided to take a little insurance and let Randy Orton and Batista in on Goldberg... Randy was in the middle of a three and a half month war with Goldberg, while dealing with Shawn Michaels, who he defeated on the 2003 PPV Unforgiven...
By then, Mick Foley had returned to WWE to become the co-General Manager of RAW, and scheduled Randy Orton for an Intercontinental title match with Rob Van Dam at PPV Armageddon 2003, after which, he added that he himself would be the referee for that fight... With the help of Ric Flair, Randy Orton defeated Rob Van Dam and became Intercontinental Champion... Mick Foley soon left WWE again, and Orton focused on the 2004 PPV Royal Rumble. Orton entered the Royal Rumble as number two and lasted more than half the fight until Mick Foley came out instead of Test and threw Randy Orton out of the ring along with himself, a fight ensued, but they were separated... Time went on and the PPV Wrestlemania XX was coming up and every week Orton, Batista and Ric Flair were beating Mick Foley... Randy challenged Foley to a one-on-one fight at the PPV Wrestlemania XX, Foley refused and suggested a two-on-three fight, Orton, Batista and Flair against Foley and The Rock, they agreed and the fight took place... The fight ended with Evolution winning, or rather after Orton held Foley after an RKO... At the 2004 PPV Backlash there was a no rules fight for the Intercontinental title between Randy Orton and Mick Foley, at the end of the fight an already half dead Orton won. This put an end to Randy Orton and Mick Foley's war...
