I turn my analytical gaze to this animated series as an adult, because in my childhood and youth I unfairly neglected it. Now, on the one hand, I regret it, because, as it turned out, the project is very cool, but on the other hand, it is quite good to look at things with a mature mind.
Historically, the first "Futurama" on television came "The Simpsons. The latter and became the main object of attention and adoration in my childhood years. Especially since the series did not have such "contrivances" with a futuristic theme, and was understandable to all ages. Futurama, on the other hand, was, although extremely similar to it graphically, but occupied attention only in those moments when the Simpsons were not shown or quite by chance. This year, on the wave of some popularity of Internet memes, animations and quotes from the series, it was decided to delve deeply into this cartoon universe. And as mentioned above - the project was unfairly neglected!
In fact, the series turned out to be extremely interesting and rousing, although at first there were some serious complaints, for example: "The impossibility of such deep humanization of robots" - they feel pain, experience emotions, can have children, grow up and other inconsistencies; or "heads in jars" - some historical figures are taken from eras where such technologies were not found anywhere near! In general, there are many such questions and problematic cases here, but to my great surprise, at one point they just dissipated. That moment comes when you get a feel for the characters and their lives, and you're already in full acceptance of the lore, enjoying that drive. It is the drive you need to catch in this story, for unnecessary questions, logical inconsistencies and nagging, will greatly reduce the level of enjoyment. As an egregious "negativist analyst," I am even glad that with Futurama this rigid paradigm of evaluation has been swept aside.
Futurama is a story filled with love, good sentimentalism, sad and joyful moments, fantastic adventures and black humor. It is a cross-section of, on the one hand, a fascinating children's show with funny scenes, and on the other, an adult attraction with colorful characters and caustic phrases. What is particularly noteworthy is that the last two seasons are even more laced with black humor than the previous ones.
